How can I password-protect my hub with Memberstack?

Malcolm supports using Memberstack to password-protect your content.

This guide will help you set up Memberstack.

First go to MyMalcolm > Settings > Instance > Visibility and toggle the option to use a third party service for Hosted Hub password protection. This automatically enables the built-in password protection.

Next, from the Memberstack Dashboard, go to Dev Tools > Add Integration.

Copy the Redirect URI from MyMalcolm and paste it into Memberstack.

Then, in Memberstack, press Add Integration.

Once created, in Memberstack click the Edit button next to the Integration and copy the Client ID and Secret Key.

Paste these values into the boxes in MyMalcolm.

Save the settings on both sides and you should see your Memberstack login page appear in your Hub.

Attributes from your Memberstack users can be pre-populated in Malcolm! Workflows. To enable this feature choose a suitable field on a Workflow, edit the field settings and enable "Allow a value to be set in the URL query". Enter one of the two attributes name or email to pre-populate those values directly into your Workflow.

Can I mix different billing plans across my instances?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Billing belongs to the instance rather than the user and we currently offer 3 different types of price plan.

Your Malcolm! user account is personal to you and can be attached to any type of Instance. So it's perfectly possible for a user to be attached to variety of instances some of which may be on different price plans.

How do I leave Malcolm?

If you want to leave an instance you can ask the owner of any instance(s) you are a member of to remove you.

If you are the owner of an instance and you wish to delete that instance you can do this via MyMalcolm (in the Settings section).

If you no longer wish to be responsible for an instance but you want the instance to live on you can transfer ownership to somebody else via the settings section of MyMalcolm. The new owner must agree to take over responsibility for the instance. Remember that billing belongs to an instance so you may wish to update the billing details of an instance before you transfer it to someone else.

No - all plans include extensive branding options. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to integrate Malcolm! and reflect the existing look and feel of your business.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up and create a Malcolm! user account by filling in the registration form here.

You will need to verify your account via clicking a link in an email we send to your email so please ensure you use a real email address!

It is free to sign up and have a Malcolm! user account - billing belongs to an Instance rather than a user. See here for more on instances.

Your user account can be attached to one or more instances of Malcolm! and you can easily switch between them. This can be great if your company or organisation are using Malcolm! for various different things or if you are a freelancer and work with Malcolm! across different clients or projects.

What is GDPR?

"GDPR" refers to The General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679. This is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union and the European Economic Area. It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU and EEA areas.

How does it apply to Malcolm?

Malcolm! collects, stores and processes data about our own customers - people signing up to Malcolm! and creating and managing instances.

When talking about GDPR it is important to understand the concept of the Data Controller and the Data Processor.

The Data Controller determines the purposes for which and the means by which personal data is processed
The Data Processor processes personal data only on behalf of the controller.

Is Malcolm! the Data Controller or the Data Processor?

In the context of information about our own customers, eg people who sign up for Malcolm! accounts and manage Instances we are the Data Controller.

In the context of information about your customers, eg information that is collected on your behalf via Workflows you create in Malcolm! we are the Data Processor only. You - as the Data Controller - have the obligation to ensure you are acting lawfully in accordance with the GDPR legislation.

What does all this mean?

When you sign up to Malcolm! you agree to our Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy which detail how we handle your data. By agreeing you give us your consent.

It is important that when you collect, store, process and potentially transfer (via Integrations or Exports) data from your own customers via a Malcolm! Workflow you have your customers consent to do this. Most companies handle this via provisions in their Privacy Policy and/or Terms and Conditions around data processing which their customers agree to. It is therefore good practice to include a check box in your Workflows that reminds customers of your Privacy Policy and their continuing agreement of it and/or confirms their consent for you to collect and process their information

Can you send me a (VAT) invoice?

You can download an invoice / receipt for each payment you've made to us in the Billing Section of MyMalcolm. Select "Invoices/receipts" in the left hand vertical navigation and then click the icon on the right of each row to download the invoice/receipt associated with each payment.

If you have paid VAT as part of the payment we've taken from your card your invoice/receipt will show a breakdown of this.
