Can I turn tags off?

Accepted Answer

You can turn the display of all tags or individual tags off/on. This will also affect the tag listing/results screens.

This feature can be useful in a number of ways, for example if you are prepping a new tag to go live and want to attach it to all your relevant FAQs/Articles but don't want it to display just yet you can simply leave it switched off until you are ready.

You can turn Tags off globally in Settings --> FAQs --> General (under the "Listings" heading)

Individual tags and their associated listings/results can be turned off via FAQs --> Tags then the three-dot menu to the right of the tag in question

Do you support Google Tag Manager?

Yes, we support Google Tag Manager. You put Google Tag Manager, and the subsequent tags and behaviours you configure in GTM on all your user facing pages. See this FAQ for further details.

What are Tags in FAQs?

Tags are a way of describing your content and allow an alternate way for your customers to browse FAQ's aside from search and categories.

You can add and manage the tags that are attached to each of your FAQs via the "configure" area.

You may also be interested in invisible tags.

How do I surface my Workflow into a floating widget?

It's quick and easy to surface your Workflow as a floating widget. You can find out more about Malcolm! widgets here.

In the Library screen of the Workflow section of MyMalcolm click the three dots on the right hand side of the screen and select "Embed" -

This will take you into the Share section of MyMalcolm! Here you can choose the type of embed you want to create.

Choose "Widget" and work through the screens. You can configure various options here including whether in the pre-expand state the widget is a button or a drawer. You can also configure where on the screen you want the pre-expand to appear. Other options include colour schemes, the option to add your own logo to the widget and also whether you want the footer and search bar to appear. See this FAQ for more detail on this.

At the end of the process you will be supplied with the code that you should add to your webpage HTML - we recommend you add this to very page of your website. You can also embed via Google Tag Manager. See here for more details.

How are Related FAQs determined and can I change this?

Accepted Answer

Related FAQs are auto-generated and by default are FAQs either in the same category or similarly tagged (we combine this pool of FAQs). We take the top 4 results from that pool, based on the sort order defined in the instance. For info on how to change the default sort order see this FAQ.

You can choose to force the Related FAQs to use tags or just the category by updating the setting in MyMalcolm / Settings / FAQs:

How do I embed a Workflow into my website?

It's quick and easy to embed a Workflow into your website or app. In the Library screen of the Workflow section of MyMalcolm click the three dots on the right hand side of the screen and select "Embed"

If you want to float your Workflow over your webpage in a widget launched from a button or drawer that hugs the side or top/bottom of the screen select Widget.
If you want to launch an overlay that contains your Workflow from your webpage choose the Overlay option.
If you want your Workflow to appear within a part of an existing webpage select the inline option.
Finally if you the page to redirect to the Malcolm! web hosted version of your Workflow when the embed tag is fired select Redirect. You may wish to use URL rules with this option otherwise the redirect will fire on all pages the Malcolm! master tag is present on.

Follow the create embed process through - the Workflow you came from will be preselected as the content you want to embed. You will be offered various styling and display options based on the type of embed you choose.

At the end of the process you will be supplied with the embed code that you can add to he site or app where you want the Workflow to appear.

Can I put tracking (or other) tags in my FAQs / Workflows / Hosted Hub?

You can add Javascript tracking tags via the Settings Section of MyMalcolm. Select Tracking tags within that section.

For Google Analytics you can just add your GA ID.

For users of Google Tag Manager you can add your GTM ID then manage all tags via their interface.

For any other tags add these in the "Any other Javascript snippets" area.

If you wish to use another tag manager you could add that tag managers code in the "Any other Javascript snippets" area and then manage your tags via their interface.

What are invisible tags and how do I use them?

Invisible tags are a useful way you can influence search results. Like normal tags they will contribute to search ranking of an FAQ, but they won't be shown on the front-end to your users. If you therefore want a particular phrase to return a particular FAQ but your content doesn't feature that phrase or is being out ranked by another FAQ invisible tags can help.

You can make current tags invisible or set up new invisible tags in MyMalcolm via FAQs / Tags:

Can I put Malcolm! Widget code into another site via Google Tag Manager?

If you are using Google Tag Manager on a site or application it is very easy to deploy the Malcolm! widget into that property via GTM.

Here is a step by step guide:

Set up your widget in the Share section of MyMalcolm (there is a guide here) and copy the embed code to your clipboard
In GTM click "Add a new Tag"
In Tag Configuration select a "custom HTML" tag type
Paste in the embed code from your clipboard
You don't need to support document.write
For your trigger use page view on all pages (assuming you want the widget to appear on all pages)

What are tags for in the Media Section?

Accepted Answer

Tags are a way (along with folders) of helping your organise and label your media.

They can be useful when your media library becomes large. For example, if you use rights managed images in your FAQs you could use tags to help you remember the expiry dates of those rights.
